I am an artist so I love vision boards because they give me a visual way of seeing my dreams. I create large detailed vision boards and small portable ones like the one above which is 9 x 12 and sits on my desk where I can see it everyday. This one is helping me expand my international team. It keeps me mindful of my goal and when I get off track it is there to pull me back to the reality I am trying to create.
A vision board is a simple yet powerful visualization tool that activates the universal law of attraction to begin manifesting your dreams into reality. The concept of the vision board, which is also known as a goal board, goal map, or treasure map, has been around for generations, but it’s gained a renewed interest and popularity after success expert John Assaraf related his story of using vision boards to achieve his dreams in the best-selling DVD documentary The Secret. I have been creating them for years. I use to have a yearly ritual on my birthday to create a collage/vision board of what I wanted to create during the coming year.
Successful entrepreneur and author, John Assaraf, brought the age-old concept of a vision board to the mainstream public by telling his story of it in the motivational documentary, The Secret. In May of 2000, John was working in his home office inside his beautiful new home in Southern California when his five-year old son came in and asked him what were in the dusty boxes in the corner of his home office. John told him that it contained his vision boards. His son didn’t understand what they were, so John opened one of the boxes to show him. When John pulled out the second board from the box, he began to cry. On it was a picture of a 7000 square foot house on top of six acres of spectacular land that he had seen and cut out from Dream Homes magazine in 1995. It was the exact house that he had just purchased several weeks prior. This is how the law of attraction works.
To create a powerful vision board it should be visual. Your subconscious mind works in pictures and images, so make your vision board as visual as possible with as many pictures as you can. Adding words is secondary because our mind resonates with the images first. The vision board consists of a poster or foam board with pictures cut from magazines, drawings and/or writing on it of the things that you want in your life or the things that you want to become. The purpose of a vision board is to activate the law of attraction to begin to pull things from your external environment that will enable you to realize your dream.
It is important to find images that show exactly what you want to attract because whatever you show on your Vision Board will become part of your reality! For example if you want a specific kind of car or a specific home in a special place, make sure it is exactly the type, model and color you desire. Your vision board is only limited by the extent of your creativity. Be passionate and don’t put limits on what you can dream. This is the place where you can dream big and plant those desires in my mind and psyche.
Go through the magazines and search for images of your dreams, or search for the right images on the internet. Start by going through your magazines and choosing all the pictures that you can find that are relevant to your goal. Don’t evaluate the pictures or start pasting them onto your board. Just stack them into a pile. If, for example, your goal is to have a six figure income, then select pictures of a lifestyle that is congruent with your six figure income. In this step you are just cutting out all of the pictures that bring up a feeling in them when you look at them.
Here are somethings to get you to think about the pictures to look for:
What would you do differently when you realize your goal?
What kind of house would you like to live in?
Where would the house be?
Where would you travel?
Where would you live?
What kind of clothes would you wear?
What would you do to change the world?
What kind of car would you drive?
What would you do for recreation?
Who would you be with?
With those things in mind go through magazine and find pictures to represent those things. When you are done, go through your pile of pictures and select the ones that have the greatest emotional impact on you. Cut all of the extra paper away from the image and start arranging your pictures creatively on your board. My vision boards usually look like works of art because I am an artist, but it isn’t necessary that they do. Don’t worry about being artistic because that isn’t the point of this activity. The point is that your board should resonate with your emotions. Arrange your pictures in a way that gives you an emotional connection to your vision board. To make it even more powerful you can include a photo of yourself. This will put you within the activity of the desires on your board and make it even more real. When you look at it is as though your mind is looking at reality and when it sees you in the image it thinks you are really there. After you are satisfied with the arrangement, glue all your pictures in place. Each picture on your vision board should evoke a positive emotional response from you. The mere sight of your vision board should make you happy and fuel your passion to achieve it every time you look at it. You can add writing or drawing on your vision board if you feel that it would better resonate with your emotions.
Find a strategic location where you can place your vision board where it will get the most visual exposure throughout the day. You want it to be a place where you will see it often. I have one on my desk which is about my business dreams but I also have one in my bedroom that reflects my relationship goals. Look at your vision board as often as possible with focused intent. This will constantly bath your subconscious mind with the energy you put into and and this will support your desire to manifest more quickly.
If you are worried about someone seeing your vision board and criticizing or judge you put it in a private location where you are the only one that will see it. Judgment and criticism from others can create self-doubt and sabotage your process. You will be surprised to see the things on your Vision Board show up in your life providing you keep putting your intention on them and stay positive. Be patient with the process because it can take time for things to line up and come into manifestation. You only job is to hold the vision that they will. You’re vision board is not a finished piece of art, it is a dynamic piece of art that shifts and changes as your vision shifts and changes. You can add to it. If you find your level of passion that your vision board gives you is growing weaker, then update it to bring fresh new emotions to it.
The Vision board is an important tool to support you to manifest the life of your dreams. They are inexpensive to make yet very a very powerful part of the manifestation process because they help you see what you want to create. Take the first step by deciding what you want to create and commit to making your vision board and activating the law of attraction to pull your dreams into reality. Look at your vision board on a consistent basis and you will begin to see the manifestation of what you desire and deserve in your life. This is a fun and easy step to success.
