Some Times we are just Sitting on our Eggs!

Several months ago someone I respected said to me “Which butt cheek are you building your business with?”  When I heard the question I wasn’t sure what she was saying, but as it sunk in I felt the insult.  She was implying that if I wasn’t sitting on my ass doing nothing I would be in a different place in my business.  The truth is I wasn’t sitting around doing nothing.  I was angry about that comment for a long time because it was based on an assumption.  I was told that she said that kind of thing as a way of motivating people.

I am not motivated by negative comments!

If you are creating a business from the masculine model there is always a flurry of activity around setting goals, and taking action.  In the masculine business model it takes 100 no’s to get to a yes.  That concept always disturbed me.  Why not just set the focus on the yes and not waste all of that time getting ‘nos’?  I don’t believe you have to be turned down 100 times to find one person who says yes.  I believe in the law of attraction and what you focus on you create.  I sure don’t want to focus on getting no’s because that is definitely what I will get!

So the feminine plants seeds and lays eggs and allows those creative sparks to go through the process of growing and blossoming.   Have you ever seen a hen sitting on her nest?  It looks like she is doing nothing doesn’t it?  Well, if she wasn’t sitting on those eggs keeping them warm they would not hatch.  They would lay in the nest and die.  It is the same with business.  During the action phase we are planting seeds.  Once the seeds are planted they need to be incubated and nourished.  The work of incubation is as important as the work of action.

Exploding my Business with the Compound Effect.

The more you find something to appreciate, the better it feels. The better it feels, the more you want to do it. The more you do it, the better it feels. The better it feels…the more you want to do it! The Law of Attraction assists with the powerful momentum of these positive thoughts and feelings until, with very little time and effort, you will find your heart singing in your joyous alignment with who you really are! And, in this wonderful-feeling vibration where no resistance exists, you will be in an exaggerated state of ALLOWING — you will be in the vibrational state where the things that you desire can flow easily into your experience. The better it gets, the better it gets!   Abraham Hicks

In my blog post a couple of months ago called ” Building Your Business with Gratitude “, I talked about the journal I started in mid January, to help me focus. I have been using it everyday for the past 2 months, writing my goals, tracking my steps to success and writing down the things I am grateful for each day and creating monthly dream collages.   I realized that another key piece to this is faith.  You have to trust that process because you don’t see the results immediately.

Why is this?  What I have learned in the past two months while doing the process is that I am being rewired.  I am creating a new habit while at the same time breaking some old ones that haven’t moved me toward success.  This rewiring doesn’t happen over night but taking steps each day has a compound effect.

There is a book floating around among my business friends called The Compound Effect, by Darren Hardy that I have but haven’t read yet.  My understanding is that he talks about taking steps everyday toward your goal that will build the momentum. His premise is different than mine but I think it has the same outcome.

Here is what is happening.  I have been tracking every little and big thing that I do each day that is focused toward building my business and this has helped me see all the steps I am taking that I might not be aware of if I weren’t tracking them.  I am also keeping track of movement toward my goals.  This has helped me focus on what I want and takes my focus away from those things that I don’t want, that I might be seeing around me, such as someone’s business growing faster than mine is.  If you understand the law of attraction you get what you focus on whether it is something you want or something you don’t want.  The Universe doesn’t care, it just follows the energy.

I have learned it is better to have understated goals at first, so that succeeding build your faith and personal momentum.  Each time I accomplish a goal I have the experience of success behind me to meet the next one.  I notice if I set my goal too high that part of me that might not believe that I can achieve it finds a way to sabotage me.

The bigger thing that I am discovering is that I might not meet all of my weekly goals but there is an explosion happening in my business on a larger scale, more in alignment with my larger goals.  This has taught me that the most important part of this practice is consistency and focus, not meeting every goal.  The compound effect I am feeling is like a magnetic force that has been built up over the past two months as I am rewired internally and have faith in the process.

My business is exploding in unexpected ways and I believe this process has had a big impact on what is happening, and I am not stopping now!

Attracting my Purpose; an new Business

Regular readers of my blog know that I quit my career of 26 years as a therapist to create something new.  Over the past 3 and 1/2 months I have remained open to allowing my new purpose to drop in.  I have been working with the Law of Attraction to put out my intention of finding my next business adventure.

A couple of weeks ago I was at a networking meeting and when I was in the restroom I was thinking about how I was going to introduce myself and my business at the meeting when two words came into my mind “Holistic Beauty”.  I immediately knew that was what I was supposed to align with.  When I first heard the two works and realized what it meant I thought, ” You have got to be kidding!”  I say that because embracing my beauty has been a life long challenge.  After looking for URL addresses and finding that Holistic Beauty was already taken I came to “Dimensions of Beauty” as the name for my business.

As I have sat with “Dimensions of Beauty” over the past couple of weeks the more I’ve gotten excited about it. It is an umbrella where everything I want to do fits including, It Works, my art work, my therapy skills, sound healing my desire to support women and business women and my empathy for the issue of embracing ones beauty.

During my career as a therapist of worked with many women and teenage girls who could not see their own beauty because they had bought into the social standard of beauty.  Many of these women were very attractive and couldn’t even see it.  Many of the teens had eating disorders, self-abuse issues and self-destructive behaviors.  I what to be part of the movement to change the consciousness of beauty on the planet.

The mission of Dimensions of Beauty is:

  1. Redefining the meaning of beauty, beyond the stereotypical ones we have been fed.
  2. Honoring the natural beauty in everyone.
  3. Providing opportunities for exploring and enhancing beauty
  4. Helping women release the old programming that we have around beauty
  5. Creating events for women that focus on bringing out the beauty in you in mind, body, and spirit
  6. Creating events for teenage girls

Right now it is a concept that is starting to take a lot of different forms.  The interesting thing I have found that when I talk to women about it, this resonates with them and they want to know how they can support me.  This usually happens when we are lined up with our purpose.  I am excited to see what happens.

I have started a blog ” Dimensions of Beauty” where I am writing about my thoughts on the subject of beauty.

Interview with Twin Cities pianist and composer, Michelle Glaser

I have known Michelle for a few years, before she was an accomplished, well-known local pianist. Michelle’s passion is music, and it becomes evident upon listening to the vast styles she can create. I was privileged to be at her concert at Steven Anderson beautiful home on Summit Avenue when she released the CD “Between Times”. I purchased the CD and listen to it often because it is such relaxing and peaceful music. The music is a lot like Michelle.

Michelle was generous to take time to talk to me in this interview and I am excited to introduce her to you on a deeper level. My intention through these interviews is to capture the soul of the entrepreneur and Michelle embodies that perfectly.

Katelyn Mariah: I have been impressed with how your career has taken off in what seems to be a short period of time. Can you tell me when music became a part of your life and what happened to line things up so perfectly for you to get you where you are right now?

Michelle Glaser: Well, I know that music became a part of my life in the womb. My mother loved music, and it’s proven that babies can hear what the mother hears or sings with her voice. As far as when my instrument, the piano, became a part of my life… I started piano lessons young, at 5 years old. I’m so grateful to my mother, because she wanted her children to have everything that she didn’t have growing up – coming from a small, Ohio farm. I was classically trained until I turned 18 and then left for college.

I spent the next 10 years learning a lot of life’s lessons. My piano playing stopped altogether, and I was just ‘going through the motions’. At the time I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted to be so I started working full-time in the administrative assistant field, and got married, way too young. Thankfully, that relationship ended, and a new Michelle emerged.

I bought my first digital piano to bring music back into my life, not realizing at the time how important that decision was. I was surprised to learn that because I hadn’t played for 10 years it was difficult to ‘sight-read’ sheet music. I just started making up my own music; improvising for hours. Music is healing in so many ways and creating music became my therapy. It’s also how I give my thanks and praise to God.

Seven years later, I met my soul mate. What a difference love makes! It changed my life to meet someone with the same spiritual beliefs. I love learning and growing with her on a daily basis. What knowledge she has shared with me! The first time I played the piano for her it made her cry. Because of the strong emotions the music evoked in her, we decided that we should bring the music to others so they could feel it too. My partner said, “Give it at least 6 months” and see what happens. So, we decided to give my dream of following my passion and doing what I love to do a chance.

After shopping around and doing the research, my partner, Rowan, found a place to record my first CD. We were ready to get my sales and exposure going. Now 2 years later, I have written 3 CDs of original music. I have toured the coffee shops; played some pubs; entertained at expos and shows; performed at churches; have been streamed live on internet radio; was interviewed in the Edge Magazine and I currently have intro music I wrote for them playing on their Blog Talk Radio show every Wednesday. (You will hear Michelle on the piano in the intro) My songs have been played on KFAI radio; and last fall I had my first television appearance on NBC KARE 11’s “Showcase Minnesota.”

Drive, dedication and determination were factors when it came to how things lined up for me; you know, ‘how bad do you want this?’ I believe in the Law of Attraction the ability to visualize what we want and can make it happen. Thoughts are very powerful and the universe is abundant and we have the capability to manifest anything we need.

KM: Can you talk a bit more in-depth about how you use the Law of Attraction in building your music business?

MG: Sure. The Law of Attraction simply says that you attract into your life whatever you think about. Your dominant thoughts will find a way to manifest. I continually see myself where I want to be, and believe that I will be there. I give positive affirmation that what I want to happen, happens. Words have power, but thoughts are very powerful too. It’s easy to fall into that trap of “I can’t do it.” If something that I need to accomplish seems challenging, it’s important to keep my thoughts positive and stay focused with the intention that I will succeed.

Just recently, for example, I submitted some of my music to an internet radio station. My New Age and Classical songs would compliment this particular station really well. My heart and soul were saying “this is where my music will be showcased.” I didn’t say or think “I wish my music could be played on this station.” It’s a matter of clearly defining what you want and stating it as if it will happen. And as it turns out, I just found today that Enlightened Piano.com would like to use three of my songs for airplay which go live in the next couple of weeks. I’m already using the Law of Attraction with your interview, Katelyn, and know that the right person will read this and hire me to compose some music for them!

I believe self-realization is an ongoing process and I’m thrilled with how far I’ve come and where I’m now, but I don’t settle. I am constantly exploring what makes me tick and what brings me the most joy? Recently I discovered that I would really love to be a film composer so I found some ads and people looking for original music, applied and got to write the score for the short film, “The Collective.” They’ve already asked me to write for their next film, which will be playing at the Saint Anthony main theater this Spring/Summer.

KM: Isn’t it amazing how quickly things line up when you are in alignment with your true self? As a visionary artist and an art therapist, myself, I totally understand how creating can be therapeutic and a way to express from a spiritual level. I know that you have done personal recordings for people, which I would assume are messages from their soul. Can you talk about the spiritual aspect of creating music a little more?

MG: “Why, yes. Last fall I was commissioned to compose a song for someone’s husband, which would be a surprise gift for their wedding anniversary. She gave me samples of music he enjoys, artists and composers names, and at first I tried to write a song that was similar to his tastes. She didn’t care for the first song idea I came up with so I went back to my keyboard and started from scratch. That is when it happened. I let go and the song wrote itself. I took myself ‘out of the way’, stopped trying, and a beautiful melody emerged, and all of the other instrumentation just fell into place. I thought, “Well, this doesn’t sound like what he usually listens to, does it?” But I kept-on with writing it, trusting that what was coming out of my hands, was supposed to be in this song. When the woman heard the final version of the song, she wept and told me that I must have channeled their soul song. The husband loved the song too. I feel so blessed to have had this experience with them. Click this link to learn more about Michelle’s custom work.

Composing music is my gift and I connect with music on a level that is connected to my soul. When people find their gift and use it for the greater good, I believe that spirit helps and guides them. Everyone has the ability to co-create with source. It’s a matter of learning how to tap into it. For me, it just comes naturally when my heart is wide open and I’m full of love. My whole goal is to compose music that reaches people on a soul level, to nourish their soul in the forms of joy, love or passion. I’m in ‘Zen’ when I play piano, and I think that energy, or what is coming from my hands onto the keys, is conveyed in the sounds I create and is able to be experienced by my listeners.”

KM: That is exactly what happens to me when I paint a soul portrait. It is like everything around me disappears and I am in a sacred space and what comes through is always perfect.

Do you have favorite composers or a favorite style of music? I know your music is a combination of styles, can you talk about that?

MG: Wonderfully said, Katelyn!

There are so many great artists out there and I’ve been influenced by all of them in one way or another. I don’t necessarily have one favorite style of music. As a teenager I listened to Level 42 a lot and their lyrics enchanted me because they spoke of things outside of the world I was growing up in. I love the way their melodies aren’t predictable. Mark King is incredible on bass, and Mike Lindup is a keyboard genius. Enigma is another love of mine because their music takes me to a higher vibration. My mp3 player has mostly up-tempo, dance music on it though because I wear it when I go walking and running. I also listen to it when I need to relax or focus. Funny thing, I don’t tend to put on slow, meditation music to feel more connected to the divine, although I love to create that on the keyboard.

My music indeed is a combination of styles. My first album “…and The Piano Fell in Love” was a collection of New Age and Classical music and that was how we decided to market my music at first. I had friends and colleagues who said that I should stick to one genre. I don’t understand why that has to be. Why limit yourself? “Between Time,” my second CD release, was recorded on a $150,000 Bosendorfer piano. Some of the songs were re-recorded for better sound quality and improved upon by adding beautiful cello accompaniments performed by Jacqueline Ultan, and written by Steve Yeager. Some of the songs on the CD were new compositions. I worked with producer Anthony J.W. Benson of injoi Music to create a professional and organic-sounding product. My third release “Dance, Trance and Romance” features dance, groove and electronica music. I guess I can’t contain my creativity to be molded into one market. I like the freedom of enjoying the process and getting different end results. There’s so much music I’ve recorded at my home studio that has not been released. I’m currently submitting that music to be licensed in FILM and TV.

I agree with Michelle, why is there a push to limit creative expression? It happens in music, art and in writing. I believe that authentic expression is unique to the artist and there should be no labels placed on it. I am excited that Michelle is listening to her inner voice rather than the voice of public opinion because I love what she is creating. I hope each of you get to hear her music in person someday soon but until that time here is a special creation for you to enjoy.

Here are what others are saying about Between Time:

“Between Time” is the only CD I play in my car. I take it everywhere.” – Carol R.

“My acupuncture & chiropractic patients enjoy relaxing to your CD, “Between Time.” – Cynthia S., D.C.

Listening to “Between Time” makes it easy to create in my drawing class” – Matt S.

“I could get lost in Michelle’s trance music all night long.” – Robert S.

Business, the Law of Attraction and Blame

“Sometimes the universe gives you a gift and if you grab hold of it, your life transforms…The gift? Understanding Attraction.” ~Tammi Putnam

I have been practitioner of the Law of Attraction for years before the Secret came on the scene, but that video helped me take it to a new level in my personal life. Esther and Jerry Hicks and Abraham have made the Law of Attraction something I could use in my life all of the time because they gave it practical application. Since starting my own business several years ago I have incorporated the principle into my business as well. Understanding how it works will transform your life and your business!

The Law of Attraction is the universal law that says whatever you focus your energy or attention on, you’ll attract more of the same. To put it in the most simple terms, “like attract like.” It is an easy law to understand and not always easy to put into practice especially when it comes to business. It means that you have to look at yourself, when something happens, to uncover what energy and vibration (thoughts and feelings) you are sending out that is creating what you are seeing in your life. It means uncovering the thoughts and feelings that you have that are creating your current life.

Being in business for yourself is one of the greatest personal development vehicles on the planet because it forces you to look at yourself. Many people quit businesses when they aren’t going in the direction they has hoped for, blaming the company, the products, their up line, down line and everyone but themselves.

If you truly understand how the Law of Attraction works, you see that blame has no part in it. It is about taking responsibility for thoughts and feelings, finding a better feeling thought and re-aligning with Source. If blame enters the picture, whether to blame someone else, or yourself, you are not taking responsibility. We live in a world where we are taught to immediately find blame – whether it’s blaming others, or blaming ourselves, it really doesn’t matter. We get defensive, trying to be right and sometimes lose relationships in the process.

As long as someone is to blame we don’t have to take responsibility for our thoughts or feelings. Blaming and going into defense are hard habits to break because it is a social program that many people use. When you start to play the blame game, you will attract more things to blame courtesy of the Law of Attraction. When it comes to building a business you don’t want to stay in that place very long or it will be reflected in your growth.

If, instead, we see everything as a mirror that is reflecting something to us we can take responsibility for both the exquisite things that happen to us and the painful things that happen. Taking responsibility for our thoughts and feelings, finding a better feeling thought and re-aligning with Source is key. When we find ourselves in a negative feeling place we can shift our focus and move up the emotional scale to a better feeling thought, with no need for hanging out in the negative emotion to figure it out.

So for example when I find my self in anger I want to move up the scale by feeling the next best feeling on the scale until I get back in alignment with my joy so I can get back to attracting what I want.

Asking why something happened and trying to figure it out is pointless and energy consuming and it keeps the focus on what you don’t want. I remember a time when processing our feelings, diving into our past and figuring out why something happened or why I was behaving a certain way was the way to transformation. It doesn’t really work and keeps us stuck and focused on things that we don’t want.

There is no need to explore the past, there is a need to re-adjust our focus in the present and choose a better feeling thought, because that is the place where we can manifest our dreams. In every moment, you have the opportunity and the choice to create your future moments by being aware of how you’re feeling.

When you see yourself blaming someone else for what is happening in your life take responsibility for it yourself. This doesn’t mean that you have to ignore your pain or hurt feelings and not say anything. It is important in relationships to share what you are feeling as long as you self reflect, take responsibility for your part, and find peaceful resolution.

Look at the situation were you are blaming someone for something in your life and determine what you are thinking that has brought that situation to you. Every action and every feeling that someone has toward you is a reflection of what you are or were feeling. You attracted this person or situation because of a feeling you were sending out to the Universe and they are a blessing because they are a guidepost to what you are thinking.

Take responsibility of your hard day, your uncomfortable feelings and change them. Understand that changing your perception of others and loving yourself will attract more good things into your life. We are not always going to agree with everyone in our lives but if we understand the Law of Attraction and self reflect on what it is we are doing to create the situations we are in we can come from a place of understanding and stay out of blame.

My business transforms and I magically attract what I want when I can stay focused and remember my thoughts are creating my reality.
